Of these artists, only Jean-Paul Riopelle gained a somewhat modest but international reputation. The father of Automatisme, André Breton, called Riopelle : “un trappeur supérieur” a kind of artist woodsman swinging his painterly axe in the urban wilderness. the show, exhibiting both Paul-Émile Borduas’ and Riopelle’s artwork wil travel from Markham to Buffalo’s Albright-Knox Art Gallery. Where they will be in the presence of other Automatiste greats such as Pollock, Motherwell, Arshile Gorky… A great opportunity to see the work of some of Quebec’s great painters. it opens in buffalo on march 19th.
