No bubbles here

I stumbled onto some pictures of some guy’s sculptures. Mostly animals and portraits and basic sculpture subjects like that.

So I kept on reading and I found out that the guy’s sculptures were made out of bubblegum. My first reaction was :”God I hope it’s not chewed bubblegum, it would be pretty gross to have to schlep those huge things around for this guy’s expos.

The guy’s name is Maurizio Savini. He’s a sculpter from Italy. And his medium of choice is your average chewing gum. I find it just awesome that someone would think of making these huge sculptures out of stuff that you chew for hours and throw out after. You must have a pretty twisted mind to think of using food for art in size ( most of his stuff is life size)

I was relieved to find out he covered his artwork in formaldehyde and some kind of antibacterial. I also found he sculpts the gum with a knife while he blasts it with a heat gun, so he probably doesn’t chew it beforehand, which is somewhat disappointing in a weird way.
